Wild Blueberry Smoothie Recipe with Green Tea for Pre Training Meal

By Ruben Avila  · November 15, 2013  · @RubenEAvila

Healthy Shakes Help Lose Weight

This is a good smoothie for fat loss as well as to have before a training session.

Another shake recipe here that does not need any whey protein powder.  You get all your protein from the greek yogurt and the hemp seeds.  I’m kind of liking these.  And, I enjoy the fact that I’m not having a diary byproduct.  Not that I am anti-whey.  But, I’m definitely pro-greek yogurt due to the digestive enzymes it has.

If you thought blueberries were a great food to nourish yourself with due to their high antioxidant properties, you were right.  But, wild blueberries are even better than cultivated blueberries.  I am not surprised.  Mother nature always provides what is best for us, and we always find a way to mess with it thinking we know better.  We don’t.

A twist in this recipe is the green tea.  I took a risk and it worked out.  It was pretty delicious and this is why I’m sharing it.  No recipes here without my stamp of approval.  The green tea coupled with the high fiber and high fat content of this smoothie make for a good release of caffeine into your system.  So, if you are sensitive to caffeine you will not feel any type of jittery feelings.

Then again, I don’t know anyone that is sensitive to caffeine any more.

Let’s waste no more time, here is the blueberry smoothie weight loss recipe:

Can Lentils Help You Lose Weight

The answer is yes!  Lentils can help you lose weight.  Are they a miracle food?  No, of course not.  Nothing is.  When you see something in a magazine, on television, or the internet just realize that they need hyperbolic statements in order to pique interest.  I am attempting my first cut ever, and I am enlisting the aid of lentils.

How can lentils help you lose weight?

Here is a good source of information detailing how lentils can be used as a tool to help you lose weight.

Anyway…

Don’t Buy Fruit Juice, Make It Yourself!

It’s hard out there for a G.  Sometimes we need quick meals that will give us enough calories to get by for a couple hours without cooking.  Shakes are a great way to do just that.  Most of my shakes have always had one ingredient in common: whey protein powder.  Recently, I have decided that I want to keep my whey intake to sporadic at most.  So, here’s another protein shake without protein powder.  Another bonus, all ingredients are paleo.

ChocoButta: My New Favorite Chocolate Shake

By Ruben Avila  · October 11, 2013  · @RubenEAvila

A quick fat loss protein shake recipe that's delicious.
Chocolate? Peanut Butter? Coconut Oil? YES!

This chocolate fat loss protein shake recipe is AMAZING!

A couple of weeks ago, I had a shake that was prepared by the guys at the gym I go to.  They have a shake bar; it is pretty cool.  I had a chocolate peanut butter shake, and I loved the taste.  It was very good.  I have been trying to come up with something to rival that shake since then.  I think I succeeded with this recipe.  I call it ChocoButta.

This shake is pretty low in carbs, but not completely devoid in carbs.  Carbs are necessary, dudes.  The fat from both the peanut butter and coconut oil work together to make this a shake that is suitable for fat loss.  Check out this article which links to a peer reviewed study on coconut oil and its effects on fat loss.  Here’s an excerpt from the article:

Jiu-Jitsu Recovery Recipe: Paleo Turkey Chili

By Ruben Avila  · October 9, 2013  · @RubenEAvila

paleo turkey chili recipe

Check out this Paleo Turkey Chili Recipe. Damn delicious and good for you.  It’s got a pretty good kick to it spice wise, which is pretty helpful for me right now as I am fighting a cold/flu.  I think there aren’t enough turkey recipes out there.  I don’t get why though.

Turkey offers the following health benefits:
  • Protects against cancer formation
  • Provides energy and regulates the body’s blood sugar
  • Helps maintain cardiovascular health
  • Is very effective in stimulating metabolism and function of thyroid hormone
  • Stimulates the body’s immune system and provides antioxidants
  • Help lower bad blood cholesterol and increase good cholesterol
  • Helps to stimulate energy production, mood, increase testosterone levels and regulates blood pressure

If you don’t know, now you know.  So, get on with the turkey eating y’all.  Oh, also, you may want to educate yourself on paleo lifestyle if you haven’t already.  It’s an interesting theory that’s given many people great results.

Don’t be scared homie.

Homemade Meal Replacement Shake for Weight Loss Without Using Protein Powder

By Ruben Avila  · October 2, 2013  · @RubenEAvila

homemade meal replacement shake for weight loss
Jamba Juice is bad. Mmmmmmmmmmkay?

I like this homemade meal replacement shake for weight loss recipe because it is packed with Vitamin C, Calcium, and Fiber. I just had it this morning. Shakes are perfect for quick meals. Duh. But, don’t make the mistake of going to Jamba Juice and paying ten dollars for a sugary cup of crap that will actually make you gain weight. Make your shakes yourself! Don’t be lazy.

Since I like making homemade meals, I figure I might as well share them with you. Who knows, it just may be helpful right?

Post Training Meal for BJJ: Chicken with Brown Rice Pasta

By Ruben Avila  · August 26, 2013  · @RubenEAvila

This is a Great Post Training Meal for BJJ

Not sure if this is useful or interesting to everyone, but this is how I generally cook for myself.  I’m a single guy who lives alone.  Cooking for myself every day is… depressing.  But, eating out constantly is not affordable advisable either.  So, I cook in bulk instead.  This recipe here is what I’d consider to be a good post training meal after bjj training or post weight resistance training (do you even lift, bro?).
